American Lung Association “State of the Air”

The American Lung Association has published its annual “State of the Air” report on ozone and PM 2.5 pollution in U.S. cities.

Seattle ranks okay but not great on ozone levels, poor on the number of individual days where PM 2.5 levels are high, and a “pass” on annual PM 2.5 levels. Pages 141-142 provide a full report on counties in Washington State.

It’s interesting (and alarming) to see how much impact the West Coast wildfires are having on air quality. Seattle is impacted for a relatively short number of days, but many parts of California are getting walloped almost year-round as the ongoing drought has left the state a veritable tinderbox.
